AI coding assistant and agents in the editor, terminal, desktop app and GitHub
GitHub Copilot is an AI assistant from GitHub. It suggests code, answers questions about a codebase, reviews changes and works on tasks you assign it. It runs as a cloud service in editors and IDEs (VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, Eclipse, Neovim and more), on github.com, in GitHub Mobile, in the terminal (Copilot CLI) and in the GitHub Copilot app for macOS, Windows and Linux.
Agent features, as GitHub names them: agent mode in the editor; Copilot cloud agent, which works on an issue or task in the background and can open a pull request; Copilot code review; and Copilot CLI, with plan and autopilot modes. You can also hand tasks to third-party agents such as Claude by Anthropic and OpenAI Codex, and connect MCP servers.
Plans in USD: Free $0, Pro $10/month, Pro+ $39/month, Max $100/month, Business $19 per user/month, Enterprise $39 per user/month. Chat and agent use draws on monthly GitHub AI Credits (1 credit = $0.01). Code completions are unlimited on paid plans.
Individual developers, freelancers, students, educators and open source maintainers (Free, Pro, Pro+, Max), and organizations and enterprises that manage Copilot for their teams (Business, Enterprise).
Works inside the editors you already use (VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, Xcode, Eclipse, Neovim) and on github.com.
A free plan and Pro at $10 a month, and you can hand tasks to Claude and OpenAI Codex agents inside GitHub.
Built into github.com: assign an issue to the Copilot cloud agent and it opens a pull request.
OpenAI's coding agent for the terminal, IDE, desktop app and cloud
The Codex CLI is open source under Apache 2.0, and cloud tasks each get their own workspace and can open a pull request.
