Ulysses is a writing app for Mac, iPad and iPhone by Ulysses GmbH & Co. KG. You write in plain text with a markup-based editor (Markdown XL), and the formatting is applied later, when you export. All texts live in one library of projects, groups and sheets, and sync between your devices through iCloud. Ulysses has existed since 2003.
Texts export to PDF, DOCX, ePub, HTML, plain text, rich text, Markdown and TextPack, with styles and a live preview. Blog posts can be published directly to WordPress, Ghost, Medium and Micro.blog. A grammar and style check (an online service based on LanguageTool) covers over 20 languages. You can set writing goals and deadlines.
Prices on the US App Store: Monthly Plan $5.99, Yearly Plan $39.99, Perpetual License $199.99 (one payment). The monthly and yearly plans include a 7-day free trial. Students and teachers can buy a six-month offer for $10.99. Ulysses is also part of Setapp, and volume licenses are sold for organizations.
