Open-source AI agent that runs on your computer, as a desktop app, CLI and API
goose is a general-purpose AI agent that runs on your own machine. It is not only for code: it can also help with research, writing, automation and data analysis. It comes as a desktop app for macOS, Linux and Windows, as a command-line tool (CLI) for the terminal, and as an API to build it into other tools. It is written in Rust.
goose works with more than 15 model providers, such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Ollama, OpenRouter, Azure and Bedrock. You can use API keys or your existing Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini subscription. It connects to more than 70 extensions through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Recipes save a workflow as a YAML file you can share or run in CI. Subagents can work on tasks in parallel.
goose is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 licence. It was made by Block, which gave it to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) at the Linux Foundation in April 2026. The code moved from block/goose to aaif-goose/goose.
