Platform to publish newsletters, podcasts and video and sell paid subscriptions
Substack is a platform to publish a newsletter, a podcast and video in one place and to sell paid subscriptions to them. Every post can go out as an email and also lives on the web. It also has Notes (a short-form social feed), comments, chat threads, direct messages, live video streaming and a recording studio that works in the browser or on mobile.
Readers find new publications through recommendations, Notes, leaderboards and an explore page. Podcasts are hosted for free and sent to Apple Podcasts and Spotify; video can be sent to YouTube and LinkedIn. Payments run through Stripe, with monthly and annual plans, free trials, gift and group subscriptions. You can use your own domain, import posts and subscribers from other platforms and export your data at any time.
It runs in the cloud, on the web and in iOS and Android apps. It is free to start, with no monthly fees. When you turn on paid subscriptions, Substack takes 10% and you keep 90%, before Stripe card fees.
