Microsoft's AI assistant app for chat, images, files and Office work
Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant app. You can chat by text or voice, create images, and upload files and photos for summaries and answers. You can connect email, calendar and OneDrive and open Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook from the app. You can switch between OpenAI and Anthropic models or let Auto choose. It runs in the cloud, on the web, Windows, macOS (Sonoma 14 or later), iOS and Android.
Since August 2026, personal and work accounts use one updated app, with their data kept separate. Deep Research, Podcasts and Group Chat were retired then. Copilot Tasks moved to Cowork, an agent that does multi-step work (files, email, calendar) and asks you to approve sensitive actions.
Chat, images and file uploads are free, within usage limits. Microsoft 365 plans raise limits (US prices): Personal $9.99/month or $99.99/year, Family $12.99/month or $129.99/year, Premium $19.99/month or $199.99/year (adds Cowork in preview, Researcher and Analyst), Pro $99.99/month.
Individuals and families who want AI help with everyday tasks, writing, email and calendar in the Microsoft apps they use. The same app also serves people who sign in with a work or school account.
