Patreon is a membership platform for creators. Each creator gets a hosted page. Fans can join for free or pay for a monthly membership, with tiers and benefits the creator sets. Creators publish videos, audio, images and text posts, sell digital products and one-time purchases in a shop, and talk with members in community chats and live streams. Fans can also gift memberships.
It runs in the browser and as an app for iPhone, iPad and Android. A public API with OAuth and webhooks lets developers add "Log in with Patreon" and read a creator's members and posts.
It is free to start. Patreon takes a share of what creators earn: for creators who publish a page after August 4, 2025, the platform fee is 10%, plus payment processing fees and taxes. Creators who published earlier keep their older plan.
Patreon says more than 300,000 creators earn income on it and more than 10 million fans pay for memberships each month (December 2024).
Creators such as podcasters, video makers, artists and musicians who want to earn money directly from their fans, and fans who want to support them and get their exclusive work.
