Google Docs is Google's online word processor, part of Google Workspace. Several people can edit the same document at the same time. Comments, suggested edits and version history help teams review work. It also has templates, document tabs, a pageless mode, and smart chips and building blocks you insert by typing "@".
Docs runs in Google's cloud, in a web browser and in apps for Android and iOS. With the Google Docs Offline extension for Chrome or Edge you can edit without internet. You can import Word and PDF files, edit Word files without converting them and, since October 2026, edit Markdown (.md) files. Gemini in Docs drafts and rewrites text and creates images. The Google Docs API lets developers edit documents with code.
Anyone with a Google Account can use Docs at no charge. Some features need a paid Google Workspace plan. The US pricing page lists Business Starter at $7, Business Standard at $14 and Business Plus at $22 per user per month (USD). Enterprise is priced by sales.
