Figma MCP Server is Figma's official Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, formerly called the Dev Mode MCP server. It gives AI agents design context from Figma files (variables, components, layout) so they can generate code that matches the design. Agents can also write native Figma content back to the canvas.
There are two versions. The remote server is hosted by Figma at mcp.figma.com/mcp, needs no desktop app and uses a Figma sign-in; Figma recommends it. The desktop server runs locally through the Figma desktop app and is meant for specific organization and enterprise needs. Only clients in Figma's MCP catalog can connect, such as Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and Codex.
It comes with Figma plans. Starter plans and View or Collab seats get up to 20 tool calls per month. Dev and Full seats get up to 200 per day on Professional and Organization plans and up to 600 per day on Enterprise. Writing to the canvas is free during the beta and will later be a usage-based paid feature.
Developers and product teams who use AI coding agents and want code built from their Figma designs, and design system teams who want generated code to reuse their real components.
Gives agents design data from Figma files (variables, components, layout) and can write frames and components back to the Figma canvas; Context7 gives library documentation.
Works from the design file instead of the running page: agents read Figma variables and components, and Code Connect links Figma components to code components.
