Open-source e-commerce platform to build and run your own online store
PrestaShop is an open-source e-commerce web application written in PHP. It has a storefront for customers and a back office to manage products, orders, customers, shipping, payments and stock. You can extend it with modules and themes from the PrestaShop Marketplace.
Classic is a free download that you install on your own web server (PHP 8.1+ and MySQL 5.6+); hosting and domain costs are not included. Hosted adds hosting with Gandi (50 GB), store installation and support by email or phone, from €24 excl. VAT per month paid yearly or €29 excl. VAT per month with no commitment, with a free 14-day trial.
The core is licensed under OSL-3.0 and the modules under AFL-3.0. Version 9.0 was released on June 10, 2025. It adds a new Admin API (REST, GraphQL, JSON:API) and the Hummingbird theme. The maker states that more than 250,000 merchants use PrestaShop.
Agencies, developers and entrepreneurs who want to create an online store from scratch, and entrepreneurs who want an all-in-one hosted solution to launch an online business.
PrestaShop is a standalone store application that does not need WordPress, and the maker offers a Hosted plan with installation and support from €24 excl. VAT a month.
The core is open source (OSL-3.0) and free to download and install on your own server, so you control the code and the hosting.
It ships a ready storefront and back office, storefront themes and modules come from the PrestaShop Marketplace, and the Hosted plan includes store installation and support by email or phone.
Open-source e-commerce plugin that turns a WordPress site into an online store
It runs inside WordPress, so the shop and the site share one dashboard, the maker lists 1,000+ extensions, and a mobile app for iOS and Android takes in-person payments.
